TOP 10 MOVING MISTAKES

#2 Not knowing if a mover has workers comp insurance. Considering that 9 out of 10 movers have only one truck it seems to go hand in hand that the majority of these small companies do not carry workers comp insurance. The reason they don't expand to add additional trucks is due to the fact that when they reach 5 or more employees they must have workers comp insurance. Although they are not required to have it, you don't want to hire them and potentially risk having one of their employees sue you for an incident that happened on your property. It's true...yes you can be sued if they don't carry workers comp insurance!!
#3 Hiring a mover that uses temp or contract labor. In moving the seasons are cyclical as well as the employees. For this reason, many moving companies use temporary labor to compensate for the everchanging demand of their services. The problem with temporary labor is that they are inexperienced, which results in unnecessary damages, and a much longer move time. Unfortunately, that leaves you, the customer, with a much greater bill than ever expected. Make sure the movers you choose are full-time, fully trained, and certified movers.

#4 Asking too few questions! You can never ask enough when dealing with most moving companies! There are an endless number of questions you would need to ask to find out all the details... "Do you charge for extra walking distances?" "Do you stop the clock for lunch?" "Do you start the clock when you leave the office?" "What items do you charge extra for?" "Do you have step fees?" "Do you have any fuel surcharges or taxes?" These are only a few of the many questions you need to ask your mover to find out their actual rate. The more questions you ask, the more you will see the truth in what they charge for and the quality of service they offer.
#5 Not Checking for Referrals!
Before choosing any moving company, always check for referrals. Word of mouth is huge in the moving industry and it is the greatest contributing factor to our success. In fact, the majority of our clients are referrals or repeat clients. When viewing referrals, a good rule of thumb is to check a minimum of five. Additionally, at Moovers our testimonials are accompanied by pictures of the families. Our testimonials are 100% credible!
#6 Miscalculating the value of FREE services. At Moovers, our value-added services greatly discount the price of your move! When people move, most of them forget to consider the value of these FREE services that they more than likely will pay for with another mover. Don't choose a mover just because they have the cheapest rate, but rather choose a mover based on the value of their service. At Moovers, our free wardrobe service, and free assembly and disassembly usually save our customers over $150!
#7 Not knowing the size of the truck. Believe it or not, but there are a lot of moving companies out there that use very small box trucks and even trailers. For the most part, the companies that use trailers usually have contract labor and have no insurance coverage for your goods. Both of these are an extremely bad combination when it comes to moving. Additionally, smaller trucks mean more loads, greater time, and a much larger bill for you. Also, companies that use trailers usually have a smaller, more unsecured box for your goods which will result in more damages.
#8 Not knowing if a mover has overbooking protection. All the time we get calls for people that immediately need a mover because the one they booked didn't show up. A lot of moving companies will book as many moves as possible even if they don't have availability. This is to compensate for any cancellations or reschedulings they may have. Additionally, if someone calls to book a 5 bedroom and you already had a 2 bedroom scheduled on that day, they will cancel your job in order to book a more profitable move! Don't get stuck in this position. Choose Moovers and we will provide you with overbooking protection. No matter what size your job is, we won't schedule over it!
#9 Thinking it's cheaper to move yourself. Everyone always thinks it cheaper to move themselves, but when they actually get around to doing it, it usually costs them a lot more than ever expected. The truck rental rates, mileage fees, cost of gas, and equipment fees are just a few of the several expenses that you need to consider when figuring how much it's going to cost to move yourself. Also, a lot of people leave out the expense of time they wasted moving themselves, the high level of stress, unexpected damages, the hassle of getting everyone together to help, the food to feed the helpers, potential injury of the individuals helping, etc. The list goes on and on. The potential for something to go wrong is much greater when you move youself and it usually results in a greater expense than just hiring Moovers!
